Sheenah Ko is an Irish-Chinese producer and composer based in Quebec, Canada. Having built a solid career as a touring keyboardist, she has over a decade of experience headlining stages internationally with bands such as The Besnard Lakes, Bedouin Soundclash, and Kevin Hearn (Barenaked Ladies). Today, Ko is fully devoted to her own music, masterfully blending analog synthesizers, ethereal vocals, and sophisticated electronic production to create captivating and immersive soundscapes.
Her debut album, Nowhere In Time (2020), quickly caught the attention of the music scene, reaching the top 10 of Canadian campus electronic radio charts. Her second album, Future Is Now (2022), recorded from her studio in Saguenay, earned her further recognition with several award nominations and the prize for Best Pop Album at the 2023 GAMIQ Awards.
In september 2024, Sheenah Ko unveiled her third album, Transformation, marking her artistic evolution. This bilingual French-English album, co-produced with Félix Petit (Hubert Lenoir), goes beyond her previous achievements by boldly combining acoustic and electronic elements. Transformation transcends genres, exploring deep and intimate themes while inviting listeners to let go and embrace the unknown. This project reflects not only her artistic maturity but also her constant desire to push the boundaries of contemporary music production.
“Inherently pop, but more dynamic and mysterious, rich in contrasts between the piano, acoustic guitar (played by friend Navet Confit), and analog synths, Transformation reveals a more self-assured composer, so confident that she sings in French for the first time.” - Translated from Le Devoir
“Ko reveals on Future Is Now, better than on her first album, Nowhere in Time (2020), that she is also a singer-songwriter capable of putting her knowledge of synths at the service of a soaring and hypnotic pop.” - Translated from Le Devoir
“If the album “Future Is Now” is superb, living it live is even better; vibrating to the music of Sheenah Ko live should be on your bucketlist.” - Écoute Donc, Live show review
"I highly recommend you get the album Transformation, a sure bet that brings together electronic and ambient influences from around the world. The tracks on the album are divided between French and English. The sounds of each of these languages are beautifully showcased, immersing us in a universe far removed from dystopia. If you see Sheenah Ko performing near you, get your ticket; it’s a comforting and danceable performance. This album will most likely travel all over the world." - Écoutedonc.ca
“The core Besnard Lakes member takes her role as the party starter very seriously, and she even managed to convince the crowd to form a dance circle at one point .” - Exclaim.ca
“She who also plays with the Montreal group The Besnard Lakes and who accompanies Le Couleur and Vincent Vallières broke everything when I saw her at the launch of her album Future Is Now last June. In short, it will be important to stay well hydrated, because you risk dancing to the maximum during this show.” - Qub Musique
In 2024, Ko will release her latest endeavor: a completely bilingual French-English album called Transformation that pushes the boundaries of her songwriting abilities. Collaborating with Félix Petit (Hubert Lenoir), she sets out to shatter conventions and create an even more energetic and distinctive musical masterpiece.
